The Te Whanganui-A-Hei Marine reserve at Cathedral Cove offers sensational glass bottom viewing with it's diverse range of marine life and topography. Watch in awe as the snapper at Gemstone Bay swim right past the glass. As we cruise over the amazing kelp forests the guides will help spot fish such as red moki, triggerfish, angelfish, marblefish, parore and stunning schools of blue mao mao. Don't forget to keep an eye out for crayfish and stingrays cruising around or lazing under overhangs.
If you would like to get amongst it, be our guest, as we will supply you with all your snorkeling equipment, free of charge! Or you can sit back and enjoy watching the amazing marine life through the glass bottom.
Dolphins, Penguins and NZ Fur Seals are absolutely magical when they take time out of their busy schedules to visit with us in the bay. Between the months of May to October NZ fur seals can be seen basking in the sun on the rocky outcrops behind Mahurangi Island.
We have a marine mammal watch permit to ensure you get up close and personal when they do visit us.
This cruise is a bird watcher's dream! Mercury Bay is home to a diverse range of sea birds. During the cruise you will get the chance to see different species of cormorants, gulls, NZ ducks, terns and more. Keep an eye in the sky as you may witness the amazing spectacle of an Australasian Gannet taking a dive!
